12-year-old confesses to infant's death in Pappinissery
Police have arrested a 12-year-old girl in connection with the death of a four-month-old infant in Pappinissery. The baby’s body was discovered in a well on Monday night. The infant was the daughter of Akkammal and Muthu, migrant workers from Tamil Nadu. According to the parents, the baby was sleeping with her mother and a cousin. The baby went missing when the cousin left briefly to use the washroom. When the cousin returned, the family started searching. They heard the parents' cries for help, and nearby workers found the infant in a well near the kitchen. Two workers pulled the baby from the well and rushed her to the local health center, but she was declared dead upon arrival. The police chief, Nithin Raj, reported that the 12-year-old initially denied any wrongdoing but later confessed during questioning. The girl had been living with her uncle and aunt after losing both her parents. Her father passed away last December, and her mother left when she was younger. She had been with her relatives in Kannur for the past month. The investigating officer, B. Karthik, stated she threw the baby into the well out of fear of losing her uncle and aunt's love. As she is a minor, she will be treated as a child in conflict with the law and will appear before the Juvenile Justice Board soon. She will be placed under government care.
