12,000 Singapore merchants to accept UPI payments soon
Nearly 12,000 merchants in Singapore will soon accept payments through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). This new initiative comes from a partnership between NPCI International Payments and HitPay. It aims to improve the payment experience for over 1.2 million Indian tourists expected to visit Singapore in 2024. The partnership will enable businesses to accept UPI payments, making it easier for Indian visitors to pay. Tourists will be able to use QR codes for transactions at various places, like restaurants, retail stores, and tourist attractions. This rollout is intended to ensure a smooth and convenient payment process. Ritesh Shukla, CEO of NPCI International, emphasized the goal of expanding UPI's presence globally. He stated that this partnership will provide a reliable and affordable payment option for Indian travelers in Singapore. The collaboration highlights a commitment to creating a connected global payments system. Aditya Haripurkar, CEO of HitPay, mentioned that UPI has changed India's payment landscape with its speed and ease. This partnership fits HitPay's mission to help merchants access growing markets in Asia. Earlier this year, NPCI International partnered with Magnati in the UAE to promote UPI payments, making it easier for the 12 million Indians who visit Dubai annually. Last year, NPCI also teamed up with Trinidad and Tobago to develop a payments platform based on UPI, marking its first entry into the Caribbean region.
