13-year-old boy allegedly shot classmate in Baytown
A 14-year-old girl was shot and killed by a 13-year-old classmate in Baytown, Texas, on March 21. The victim, Anaya Zachary, was shot four times while at a playground near her home. According to reports, the incident followed a dispute that occurred on a school bus earlier that day. Witnesses say that after the argument, the boy returned to the playground wearing a black mask and called Anaya's name before shooting her. She was rushed to the hospital but later pronounced dead. Anaya was described as a sweet and well-behaved honor roll student. Anaya’s godmother, Sonya Stanford, spoke to local media about the tragedy. She expressed her forgiveness towards the shooter but criticized his parents for allowing their son access to a gun. Stanford said it was disappointing that the boy could get a weapon so easily. Authorities have not yet revealed the charges the teen may face or whether his parents could be charged. He is currently in police custody. The investigation is ongoing.
