15-year-old rugby player dies after head injury in Corsica

A 15-year-old rugby player, Nicolas Haddad, has tragically died after an accident during a match in France. He was playing for the Saint-Maximin-Brignoles-Val d’Issole (RSMXV) club against Bastia on March 15 when he suffered a serious blow to the head. Haddad collapsed on the field and went into cardiac arrest. Medical assistance was provided by a nurse and a firefighter before he was taken to a hospital in Bastia. Unfortunately, he never regained consciousness and passed away days later, leading to a deep mourning within his rugby community. In a statement, the RSMXV club expressed their sadness and extended condolences to Haddad's family. They thanked other clubs and rugby leagues for their support during this difficult time. Many local clubs and fans have shared tributes to Haddad on social media. Patrice Blachere, co-president of RC Toulon, paid tribute to Haddad, highlighting his long history with the sport. He said it was heartbreaking to lose such a dedicated young athlete. RC Toulon plans to honor Haddad during their upcoming match by displaying his image on the big screen. Matches in Corsica will also include a minute of silence in his memory. Haddad's death echoes a similar tragedy that occurred last year in England, where another 15-year-old rugby player, Samuel Staple, died after a match. His family has since created a memorial fund in his honor.
