Sixteen complaints have been submitted to the Tribunal since a new anti-discrimination law was introduced 15 months ago. This update was shared by Deputy Peter Roffey during a meeting of the States Assembly. Roffey leads the Employment and Social Security Committee. He noted that the Employment and Equal Opportunities Service (EEOS) will issue its first report on these complaints next Monday. The EEOS provides independent advice and helps resolve disputes related to discrimination. Some people were worried that the new law might lead to many unjust complaints. However, Roffey reassured the assembly that these concerns were unfounded. He highlighted that the law protects against discrimination based on race, disability, carer status, sexual orientation, and religion in both workplaces and society. Roffey also mentioned that nearly half of the complaints have been successfully resolved through conciliation. This shows the effectiveness of alternative dispute resolution methods in handling these issues.
