16-year-old Kali Maya Ferris passed away in Chicago

Kali Maya Ferris passed away peacefully at her home in Chicago on March 13, 2025. She was 16 years old, having recently celebrated her birthday on November 18, 2008. Kali was a sophomore at Amundsen High School, where she was active in the cheer team and the National Honor Society. She was also accepted into the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Kali enjoyed spending time at the beach with her friends and family. She loved visiting beaches in Cape Cod, Mexico, Michigan, and Northern California. A creative person, she picked up various skills quickly, from baking to playing the piano. Kali had a special fondness for jazz music and animals. She is remembered for teaching her mother how to use their smart home devices. Kali is survived by her mother, Teresa, and her sister, Niyah. She also leaves behind her two dogs, Bruno and Ladybug, and is reunited with her late dog, Brooklyn. Friends and family will gather to honor Kali at a Memorial Mass on March 18, 2025, at Old St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chicago. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Traveling Tails Dog Rescue in Kali's memory.
