18-year-old killed at Newton County park; shooter fled

Authorities in Newton County are investigating a shooting that occurred at Denny Dobbs Park on Wednesday afternoon. An 18-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound just before 5 p.m. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Police have blocked off a section of the park to gather evidence. Many markers and police tape are visible in the area. Officials are treating the incident as isolated and say there is currently no threat to the community. The shooter is still at large, and deputies are conducting an active search. They are looking for the suspect as well as any evidence that may help their investigation.
