2025 critical for global governance reforms, says Misri
At the Raisina Dialogue 2025 in New Delhi, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri spoke about the urgent need for reforms in global governance. He described 2025 as a critical year for the United Nations, which will celebrate its 80th anniversary. Misri warned of a continuing "crisis of multilateralism" and stressed the importance of making significant changes this year. He believes that failure to act could lead to long delays in necessary reforms. Misri also expressed India's ambition to become a developed country by 2047 through its Viksit Bharat initiative. He is confident this will positively impact global dynamics due to the scale of India's growth. He highlighted that the initiative spans various sectors such as commerce, technology, and education, receiving high-level government attention. However, Misri acknowledged external challenges that could affect India's progress, including global conflicts and climate issues. He pointed out that while India may not have vast financial resources, its creative and innovative approaches in partnerships are valuable, especially with neighboring countries and those in the Global South. When asked about key global relationships, Misri refrained from picking favorites among the US, Russia, and China dynamics. Instead, he emphasized the importance of the Russia-Europe relationship, suggesting that it could be crucial in resolving various global challenges. Misri underscored India's commitment to advancing its development while navigating the complexities of international relations.
