20% of Americans support boycotting pro-Trump companies
A new poll reveals that about 20% of Americans plan to boycott companies that support Donald Trump's policies. The poll, conducted by Harris Poll for the Guardian, shows that this sentiment could harm major brands like Amazon, Target, and Tesla. Customers are expressing strong feelings about their purchasing decisions. According to the survey, 36% of Americans are already participating in or planning to join these boycotts. Many say they want to show companies that consumers have economic power and want to voice their dissatisfaction with government policies. The main reasons people boycotted include concerns over companies reducing their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies. Nearly half of the participants cited this as a reason for their shopping changes. Recent boycotts have often begun on social media. Many consumers have chosen to stop supporting known brands based on personal beliefs. For example, Rev. Jamal Bryant encouraged his followers to avoid spending at Target during Lent as a form of resistance. Additionally, Hispanic activists are promoting the "Latino Freeze Movement," urging their community not to spend on non-essentials until companies prove they care about minority and immigrant populations. While companies argue they are adjusting to new legal pressures regarding DEI, the long-term effects of these boycotts on their business remain uncertain. They are caught between maintaining customer loyalty and addressing political pressures.
