24 arrested in France, Germany for aiding drug lord

Twenty-four people were detained on Monday for allegedly helping drug lord Mohamed Amra escape from police custody in May 2024. This is the fourth wave of arrests since Amra was captured in Romania last month after being on the run for nine months. Amra, who has been called France's most wanted fugitive, is now held at the high-security Condé-sur-Sarthe prison in Normandy. Among those detained, two suspects were arrested in Germany, while the other 22 were taken into custody in France. So far, 27 individuals, including Amra, have been indicted by judges at the Paris Judicial Court. One notable suspect in police custody is rapper Koba LaD, who has over three million Instagram followers. Amra and Koba LaD reportedly met while sharing a cell in Paris in 2023. Authorities believe those arrested helped Amra in several ways. This includes hiding him in an apartment in Rouen, planning the assault on his transfer van, and driving him to Romania after the escape. Amra's escape involved violence; armed men attacked a prison convoy in Normandy, resulting in the deaths of two guards and injuries to three others.
