In Rajasthan, over 3.1 million farmers have benefited from the Sahakar Jeevan Bima Suraksha Yojana (SJBSY), according to the Cooperatives Minister, Gautam Kumar. He made this announcement in the state assembly on Monday. The total benefits given under the scheme reached more than Rs 172 crore in the 2024-25 financial year. Kumar addressed concerns about the scheme's performance. He stated that farmers paid around Rs 360 crore in premiums for the insurance in the previous year under the Congress government. The current government has reduced the premium costs, leading to farmers paying about Rs 186 crore this year. The SJBSY is aimed at members of primary agricultural credit societies receiving loans. Kumar also mentioned another scheme, the Raj Sahakar Personal Accident Insurance Scheme, which offers support to farmers taking short-term agricultural loans. He criticized the previous government for not implementing the accident insurance scheme last year due to a failure to select an insurance company. To improve transparency, all information about claims rejected by insurance companies is now available on an online portal. Kumar noted that the department is actively reviewing this data. Farmers with unresolved issues can approach the Insurance Regulatory Board or other consumer forums for assistance.
