On Saturday, Minister P. Moorthy launched 36 new buses for the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) from the M.G.R. bus stand in Madurai. He announced that a total of 357 new buses have been introduced across the state. These 36 buses will primarily serve rural areas around Madurai, aiming to assist residents living on the outskirts. Moorthy emphasized the importance of improving public transport for these communities. During the event, he addressed concerns about land distribution. Some beneficiaries had reported issues with receiving land documents for free land pattas given years ago. Moorthy clarified that land must first be earmarked before documents can be issued. He also noted an allegation regarding improper distribution of free pattas for the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department in Sholavandan. He stated that action has been taken against the official involved. Moorthy mentioned a previous event where 13,000 people received land pattas, and announced that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin would provide more pattas in an upcoming event. He added that only those living in designated government areas would be eligible for free pattas, while residents in waterbodies or objectionable areas would not qualify. Several local officials, including Collector M.S. Sangeetha and Mayor Indrani Ponvasanth, attended the launch.
