A recent poll in Portugal shows a significant number of voters are still undecided ahead of the May general election. Approximately 39% of voters do not know whom they will vote for. This poll is the first since the government collapsed earlier this month. The survey was conducted by ICS/ISCTE and published in the Expresso newspaper. It indicates that the center-right Democratic Alliance (AD) party is leading with 20% of voter intentions. This party formed a minority government after last year's early election. Prime Minister Luis Montenegro's government lost a vote of confidence in parliament due to concerns about his integrity. The opposition raised questions about his family’s data protection consultancy. Montenegro denies any wrongdoing and has the support of his party for re-election, but he is now in a caretaker role. The main opposition party, the Socialist Party (PS), has 15% support in the poll. The far-right Chega party has 9%. The survey revealed that 37% of respondents blame both the government and the opposition for the ongoing political deadlock, which has led to Portugal's third early election in just over three years. The number of undecided voters has more than doubled compared to last year. Additionally, 8% of those surveyed stated they would not vote. Previous surveys show AD and PS in a tight race, each around 30%. Chega's support has decreased since last year's election amid controversies involving party members. The ICS/ISCTE poll included 802 participants and has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
