Poliovirus detected in environmental samples in Pakistan cities

The Ministry of Health confirmed poliovirus in environmental samples from Badin, Sindh. Nine sewerage samples from five cities, including Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Chaman, and Mastung, tested positive for the wild poliovirus. Karachi South, Korangi, Peshawar's Shaheen Muslim Town, and Quetta's Sir Pul, Taosabad were affected. Pakistan has reported two polio cases in 2024.
