5-year-old critically injured in Kalkaska County crash
A serious car crash in Kalkaska County, Michigan, left seven people hospitalized, including a 5-year-old in critical condition. The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, on U.S. 131 near Day Road in Rapid River Township. According to reports, a northbound SUV, driven by a 19-year-old from Bellaire, tried to pass a car that was making a left turn. This caused the northbound SUV to collide head-on with a southbound SUV. The southbound vehicle was carrying five people from Grand Rapids, including three children aged 9, 7, and 5. All individuals involved were initially taken to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City for treatment of serious injuries. Two children, aged 5 and 7, were later moved to Devos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. The 5-year-old remains in critical condition. The Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the crash. They do not believe that alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
