A wedding celebration in Torbung Govindpur, Manipur, was tragically disrupted on May 3, 2023, when a violent rally caused widespread destruction. Within moments, his life, along with many others, changed forever. Now, in a relief camp near Imphal, he is haunted by the memories of that day. The relief camp offers basic necessities like food and shelter, largely due to local efforts. However, the emotional pain is still evident. Volunteers like Kh Premjit provide support but struggle with the mental toll on the displaced. They face the challenge of healing deep emotional wounds while trying to rebuild their lives. Children in the camp receive nutritious meals while the elders get medical care. Yet, uncertainty looms over everyone. Dolly, a postgraduate student, reflects on her lost dreams and the disruption to her education. She returned to the camp after seeking refuge with relatives during the violence, but now she searches for a job amid the chaos. More than 14,000 people from the Meitei community are displaced and scattered across various camps. Some have been moved to prefabricated shelters that offer slightly better conditions. Residents from the town of Moreh feel particularly lost, struggling to adapt to life away from their homes. Desperation has led some displaced individuals to express their need to return home. In August, protests erupted at a relief camp as people demanded action and the right to go back. The displaced simply wish to return to their lives, but the ruins of their homes stand in the way of that hope.
