5,000 youths to perform Doul Geet in Barpeta
Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a new cultural initiative for next year's Holi celebrations. He plans to gather 5,000 young singers to perform the Doul Geet at the Doul Mahotsav in Barpeta district. Sarma shared this idea during a Facebook live session. A local youth suggested the idea to him while celebrating at the Barpeta Doul Utsav. The Chief Minister liked it and decided to make it happen with the help of the state cultural affairs department. The announcement has excited many locals. They believe this event will celebrate the region's cultural heritage and possibly gain national attention. Ashok Kumar Das, from the Barpeta Satra management, thanked the Chief Minister for supporting their traditions. The idea took shape when Sarma visited Barpeta Satra and saw local singer Kaushik Das performing with a choir. This inspired the Chief Minister to pursue the initiative, which aims to highlight Assam's vibrant cultural legacy on a grand scale.
