530 footballers receive addiction treatment, including Premier League players
A Premier League player is among 530 footballers receiving treatment for addictions, including drugs, alcohol, and gambling. Last season, 80 players sought help for drug-related issues, with one being the first to enter rehab for laughing gas addiction. Brentford captain Christian Norgaard recently admitted to abusing sleeping pills due to anxiety about performance. He highlighted the growing concern over addiction in football, as many players struggle with irregular sleep patterns and rely on black market sleeping tablets. The Professional Footballers' Association reported that 42 players received support for gambling addictions last year. Concerns are also rising about the use of nicotine pouches, with one in five footballers admitting to using them.
