60 colleges warned about protecting Jewish students
Education Secretary Linda McMahon has warned 60 colleges about their responsibility to protect Jewish students from antisemitism. This warning follows protests on campuses related to the Israel-Hamas conflict and comes as the Trump administration increases scrutiny of pro-Palestinian demonstrations. The colleges, including several Ivy League institutions, could face enforcement actions if they do not comply with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. This law prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in federally funded activities. The Education Department's warning follows an executive order aimed at combating antisemitism. Recently, Columbia University lost $400 million in federal grants due to its handling of antisemitic incidents on campus.
