6,000 gallons of rancid milk spilled near Baltimore

A large truck spilled 6,000 gallons of rancid milk on the I-695 freeway near Baltimore early Saturday morning. The accident occurred close to Exit 24, according to the Maryland Department of the Environment. The tractor trailer overturned around 1 a.m., spilling its load across the road and into a nearby creek. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. However, the department warned residents to expect unpleasant smells as the milk began to sour in the sun. Images from the scene showed the truck, which was damaged and tipped against a barrier. The top container carrying the milk had come loose during the crash. Crews worked on the site, and a specialized vacuum truck was brought in to clean up the mess. By 4 a.m., all traffic lanes were reopened. It's still unclear what caused the accident. Residents in the area will have to deal with the odor for some time as cleanup efforts continue.
