605 Freeway closures this weekend in Los Angeles County
The 605 Freeway in Los Angeles County will have closures this weekend starting Friday, March 21, for construction work. This area sees heavy traffic, averaging over a quarter-million vehicles daily. Caltrans has advised drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes if possible. The southbound lanes will be fully closed between Slauson Avenue and Interstate 5 in Santa Fe Springs from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday. The lanes will close again from 11 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday for additional work. During the weekend, two southbound lanes will be open from Telegraph Road to the 5 Freeway. Several connector ramps will also be closed starting Friday evening. This includes the northbound 5 connector to the southbound 605 and various on-ramps from Washington Boulevard and Slauson Avenue to the southbound 605. Drivers will be redirected to local roads during full closure hours. The construction is part of a larger $260 million project to improve the 605 Freeway, funded by federal and state money. Next week, there will be additional lane and ramp closures for various types of construction work along the freeway. Significant work and disruptions are expected to continue through 2025, with more weekend closures planned. Dates for these future closures will be announced later.
