605 Freeway in Los Angeles to close for rehabilitation
Segments of the 605 Freeway in Los Angeles County will be closed on Sunday and again next weekend. This is due to a major rehabilitation project aimed at improving the freeway. Currently, part of the southbound freeway is closed between Slauson Avenue and Interstate 5 in Santa Fe Springs. All southbound lanes will be shut down until 5:01 a.m. on Monday for work on the road. Several other specific closures are in place as well, including connectors and on-ramps. Detours will guide traffic during these periods, as the affected areas carry a high volume of vehicles daily. Caltrans recommends avoiding the area and using alternate routes like I-110, I-710, and Route 57. The project is funded through federal and state legislation, with a total cost of about $260 million. Next week, there will be additional lane and ramp closures for other construction activities. Motorists should also be aware of upcoming work that may lead to similarly extended weekend closures throughout 2025. Future details will be shared as they become available.
