61% of Brits prefer canceling social plans
A new survey reveals that many Brits feel relief when social plans are cancelled. Six in ten people admit they often dread social gatherings and feel happy when friends cancel. Staying in is becoming more popular among those who prefer a quiet night at home. The survey found that 61% of respondents feel joy when plans are called off. Many lie to avoid going out, with 24% regularly giving fake excuses. The most common excuse is claiming to be sick, specifically “coming down with a nasty cold,” used by 37% of those who cancel. Other popular fibs include being too tired, broke, or having to work late. Environmental factors, like cold weather and the effort of getting ready, also influence their choices. A significant portion of people, 80%, said they prefer staying in, enjoying activities such as ordering takeaway, relaxing on the sofa, and spending time with loved ones. Some even enjoy solitude at home. Just Eat has partnered with a TikTok comedian to introduce a new "Canc-elation" service. This feature allows users to create fun excuses through an AI Assistant chatbot. The promotion includes a chance to win vouchers as well. Although some people get caught lying about their reasons for cancelling, many find it amusing when revealed.
