A recent poll shows that a large majority of Ukrainians support Donald Trump's proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. According to the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), about 77% of Ukrainians are in favor of the unconditional ceasefire, which was suggested after talks between U.S. and Russian officials on March 11. The survey included 1,326 adults and took place from March 12 to 22. Only 20% of respondents believe Ukraine should continue fighting, even without U.S. support. The poll reflects growing concerns over continued U.S. assistance to Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. People's reactions to the ceasefire proposal varied. About 47% think it might reveal Russia's lack of interest in peace, while 18% view it as a real chance to end the war. Conversely, 17% viewed the proposal negatively. Some felt it could weaken Ukraine or indicate desperation. Despite the desire for peace, the poll also showed that more than 80% of Ukrainians believe fighting should continue. Anton Hrushetskyi, director of KIIS, mentioned that while Ukrainians are open to negotiation, they strongly oppose any surrender or adverse peace deals. Current talks between U.S. and Ukrainian delegations in Saudi Arabia have concluded, but no results have been announced yet. Analysts suggest that while Trump has leverage, he seems to be focusing on normalizing relations with Russia, potentially at Ukraine’s expense.
