83-year-old peace activist Oded Lifshitz confirmed dead
The grandson of an elderly hostage, Oded Lifshitz, has spoken out against Hamas following his grandfather's murder. Oded was kidnapped alongside his wife, Yocheved, during a Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. While Yocheved was released after 16 days, Oded, 83, was held captive until his body was returned in a coffin earlier this year. Daniel Lifshitz, Oded's grandson, criticized Hamas for its treatment of his grandfather. He described the return of Oded's body in a "shameful ceremony" and urged the world to take action against Hamas. He believes that international efforts were insufficient to secure Oded’s release and emphasized that Hamas should not exist. Oded was known for his advocacy for Palestinian rights. Tragically, he died in captivity due to mistreatment, according to the family. His grandson expressed anger at how his grandfather was treated, saying he should have received medical attention instead of being left to die alone. The attack that led to their abduction resulted in numerous casualties. Oded and Yocheved had spent years assisting Palestinians in need. Their home was ultimately destroyed by Hamas during the conflict. In the wake of Oded’s death, his family reflects on the loss. They state that the international community failed to act decisively to protect civilians. Meanwhile, Yocheved is recovering from her ordeal in captivity. Hamas remains in control of several hostages taken during the attack. Israel’s military actions continue as it seeks to pressure the group further, insisting that the situation is far from resolved.
