Aaditya Thackeray calls for Mumbai cement road inquiry
Aaditya Thackeray, a leader from Shiv Sena (UBT), has called for an investigation into possible corruption in the construction of cement roads in Mumbai. He wrote a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, asking for the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) to conduct this inquiry. Thackeray stated that he has been raising concerns about irregularities in road work tenders since 2023-24. He noted that not only opposition members but also representatives from the ruling party have complained about the situation. Thackeray requested that action be taken against contractors and officials involved in any wrongdoing. He emphasized the impact of road construction, saying it causes blocked roads and dust pollution. Thackeray accused some people of exploiting the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) under the guise of cement road construction. On Friday, members of the BJP, including those in the ruling party, also called for an investigation into the quality of road work. Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar expressed frustration over delays in road construction in his area, Colaba. Observers see the BJP's demand for a probe as a criticism of former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who oversaw the contracts when he was in office. Thackeray has consistently highlighted issues with Mumbai's road construction over the past few years.
