Abandoned car poses safety risk on Havelock North hill
A hatchback has been left abandoned on a hill in Havelock North for months after it crashed in December 2024. The car went off the road while descending Te Mata Peak. Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash. Sandra Duthie, a local property owner, has reported the car to the Hastings District Council several times. She is concerned that the car is now in a "precarious position" due to vandalism. Currently, it is propped up with a piece of wood. Te Mata Peak Road is known for being dangerous. In the last five years, there have been over a dozen crashes in the area. The council had mentioned plans to improve the road because of its troubling history. Residents are worried that the abandoned car could cause further accidents.
