Abby Binay advocates strict land use plan implementation

Makati City Mayor Abby Binay is calling for strict adherence to Comprehensive Land Use Plans (CLUPs) by local government units (LGUs). She made this statement during a press conference for her senatorial campaign on March 22 in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Binay emphasized the importance of CLUPs in ensuring food security amid rapid urbanization. She expressed concern about how urban projects, especially housing developments, can affect food supply. She stated, "From the perspective of a mayor, we really need strict implementation of the comprehensive land use plan." The CLUP is designed for a ten-year period and is based on thorough studies of local conditions. However, Binay pointed out that good plans often fall short in their execution. She stressed that implementing the CLUP is vital for achieving a balance between development and sustainability. Binay also highlighted that deviating from the CLUP undermines its purpose. She emphasized that responsible urban planning is crucial for growth while maintaining agricultural stability and overall food security.
