ABL Space Systems is shifting its focus from commercial launch vehicles to missile defense. The company announced this change after facing challenges with its RS1 rocket, which failed during test flights. Previously, ABL had invested heavily in developing launch technology, raising $461 million. However, the founder noted that the launch market's growth has made it difficult for the company to succeed in that area. The U.S. Department of Defense is increasing its investment in missile defense, with a budget of $13.5 billion for fiscal year 2025. ABL plans to leverage its existing technology to address missile threats.
