Abu Hamza denied release; remains a public threat
Abu Hamza, a convicted terrorist, will remain in prison for life after a US court denied his request for release. The court said he still poses a significant threat to the public. Hamza, 66, has been serving his sentence at the supermax prison in Colorado since 2015. He was convicted for his role in a deadly kidnapping in Yemen in 1998 and for other terrorism-related charges. Recently, he tried to argue for his freedom based on poor prison conditions but was rejected by the judge. The judge, Analisa Torres, expressed doubt about Hamza's claims of remorse. She noted that he could still inspire violence if released. His attempts to escape his sentence were further weakened when he was found to have been influencing his granddaughter with extremist views. Hamza's lawyers described his prison conditions as inadequate, claiming he lacks basic care. They argued he faces serious health issues due to neglect, including infections and dental problems. Despite his family's pleas for compassion and support, the judge has ruled that Hamza will spend the rest of his life in prison. His lawyers plan to appeal the court's decision.
