Accusers of Matt Gaetz prefer not to testify publicly, lawyer says
Two women accusing former Rep. Matt Gaetz of paying for sex do not want to testify publicly, according to their lawyer. They previously provided closed-door testimony to the House Ethics Committee and hope the committee will release its investigation findings. Gaetz resigned after being nominated by Donald Trump for attorney general. The House Ethics Committee is expected to discuss releasing its report on allegations against Gaetz, which include sexual misconduct and drug use. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin may call the women to testify during Gaetz's confirmation hearing but prefers to obtain information from the House Ethics Committee report first. Some Republican senators are skeptical about Gaetz's confirmation.
