Activist Mahmoud Khalil arrested despite having green card
Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Columbia University despite having a green card. His wife revealed he sought legal help from the university a day before his arrest, fearing ICE action. Khalil's wife, who is eight months pregnant, expressed concern for her safety and the need for her husband to be home for their child's birth. She stated that anti-Palestinian groups targeted Khalil with false claims prior to his arrest. A court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday regarding Khalil's detention. His legal team is asking the court to return him to New York, arguing that his arrest is unlawful and aimed at suppressing dissent.
