Activists demand clarity on Hyderabad land auction
Environmental activists are calling for clarity regarding the auction of Kancha Gachibowli land in Hyderabad. They argue that the auction violates public trust and could harm the local ecosystem, citing a Supreme Court ruling on forest land. The Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) maintains that the auction aligns with government goals for IT development and urban sustainability. TGIIC claims the auctioned land does not include nearby lakes and that they are preparing an Environmental Management Plan. Activists have formally requested the auction's withdrawal, a halt to tree felling, and a biodiversity impact assessment. They are also encouraging potential bidders to assess the site, warning of possible ecological damage.
