Activists file second impeachment complaint against Philippine Vice President Duterte
Activists in the Philippines have filed a second impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, accusing her of misusing 612.5 million pesos ($10.3 million) in government funds. They demand she be barred from public office permanently. The complaint, submitted to the House of Representatives, follows an earlier impeachment case filed on Monday. It alleges that Duterte and her staff submitted false documents to cover up the misuse of funds, including suspicious expenditures during the 2022 Christmas holidays. Duterte is also facing a criminal investigation for threatening President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and has been accused of involvement in extrajudicial killings during her father's presidency. The House, dominated by Marcos's allies, will review the complaints, which could take weeks or months.
