Activists request access to new Nagapattinam station entrance

Activists are requesting Southern Railway to open the entrance to the new station building in Nagapattinam. The current eastern entrance, which has been in use since 1861, is closed due to the construction of an overbridge. The new station building is located on the western side of the old station, near the Nagapattinam Town Police Station. It has been under construction for two years, with a budget of ₹4 crore. However, access to this new facility is blocked by walls that have recently been erected. With the eastern entrance closed, many passengers, especially senior citizens and those with disabilities, are struggling to access the platforms. The Nagai District Consumer Protection and Passenger Association has sent a letter to the Divisional Railway Manager, asking for the western entrance to be opened urgently. G. Aravind Kumar, Secretary of the Association, stressed the importance of providing access to prevent difficulties for passengers. Railway sources have stated they will investigate the situation and take appropriate action.
