Activists urge Telangana to reallocate Iftar funds for education
Activists are calling on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to rethink the use of Iftar funds. They suggest either stopping the event or redirecting the money to support education instead. The Students' Islamic Organisation is among those voicing this opinion. In a recent report on government spending, the organisation noted that many students have not received their scholarships. They pointed out the need for financial help in areas like tuition reimbursement, employment, and economic development. Activists believe these issues are being overlooked while public funds are spent lavishly on Iftar celebrations. Former minority commission chairperson Abid Rasool Khan supports this call. He described the Iftar spending as extravagant and wasteful. In a letter to the Chief Minister, Khan urged a shift of funds to initiatives that would genuinely benefit the Muslim community. Many are questioning the government's commitment to minority welfare. The activists demand a more sincere approach to addressing educational and economic needs.
