Actress 'A' awarded 48 million KRW for burns
A well-known actress, identified as 'A,' was awarded 48 million KRW (about $33,000) by a court after suffering second-degree burns during a cosmetic procedure. The incident took place at a dermatology clinic in Seoul where 'A' underwent treatment for wrinkles. The Seoul Central District Court found dermatologist 'B' negligent for not properly monitoring 'A' during the procedure in 2021. Although 'A' initially sought 200 million KRW (about $136,500) in damages, the court decided on a lower compensation amount. 'A' has been acting since 2012 and is known for her roles in popular dramas. After the burns on her left cheek, she required extensive treatment, undergoing around 50 additional procedures. Despite improvements, a visible scar remains, affecting her work. While filming a drama shortly after the incident, special effects were used to hide the scar, costing about 9.55 million KRW (around $6,520). The court noted that 'B' did not adjust the procedure based on 'A's' feedback about pain and heat during treatment. The final compensation included payment for medical expenses, future treatments, lost income, and psychological damage. However, expenses for the special effects were excluded. Both 'A' and 'B' accepted the court's ruling without appeal.
