Adam Hollioake returns to cricket as head coach
Adam Hollioake, a former England cricket star, is starting a new chapter as head coach of Kent County Cricket Club. At 53, he reflects on a challenging 15 years filled with personal loss and hardship. Hollioake faced tragedy in 2002 when he lost his younger brother Ben, who was only 24, in a car crash. Over the years, he also lost his best friend, several teammates, and faced bankruptcy due to a failed investment. In order to support himself and his family, Hollioake turned to boxing and mixed martial arts, where he had some success in the ring. Despite the difficulties, Hollioake is embracing his return to cricket. He has previously worked with various teams, including England and Queensland, but now sees coaching as his true calling. He believes that his experiences in fighting can benefit his coaching, highlighting similarities in discipline and preparation between the two sports. Now that his children are in their 20s, Hollioake feels freer to pursue his own aspirations. He aims to help players develop both on and off the field. He remains open to life’s challenges and shares his journey with a sense of resilience, determined to make a positive impact in his new role.
