AFP endorses civilians' social media freedom in Manila
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has confirmed that it does not restrict civilians, including military families, from expressing their views on social media. This statement was made by AFP spokesperson Col. Xerxes Trinidad, who emphasized the importance of freedom of expression. Col. Trinidad highlighted recent visits by AFP chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. to military units across the country. These visits aim to reinforce professionalism and discipline among military personnel. He mentioned that the AFP values transparency and encourages citizens to engage responsibly online to combat misinformation. However, there are specific rules for active military members. Philippine Army (PA) spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala stated that soldiers must resign before they can openly discuss political matters. This policy is in place to maintain the PA as a non-partisan organization. Col. Dema-ala stressed the importance of military personnel focusing on their duties and remaining apolitical. He noted that all members of the PA have a responsibility to protect the nation with dedication and professionalism.
