Ahmedabad woman alleges abuse by husband and in-laws

A 21-year-old woman from Ahmedabad has made serious allegations against her husband and in-laws, saying they mistreated her since her marriage in May 2023. She claims she faced extreme control over her life, including being forced to wear a specific nightgown. The woman moved to Bapunagar after her wedding and reported that her husband, a doctor, developed a drinking problem. She said he often verbally abused her. When she asked her in-laws for help, they instead treated her poorly. One shocking claim is that her husband tried to control her daily activities, even dictating her sleep schedule. She said he sometimes forced her to massage his legs before allowing her to rest. If she resisted wearing the designated nightgown, she faced further abuse. The situation worsened with the influence of her brother-in-law and his wife, who allegedly encouraged her husband to mistreat her. The woman's breaking point came in May 2024 after a family trip to Kashmir. Following the trip, she left for her parents' home, unable to tolerate the abuse any longer. Despite attempts to reconcile, her husband was reportedly unwilling to change. Eventually, she sought help from the police and filed a formal complaint. The police have started an investigation into her allegations.
