AI blood pressure management system launched in Hong Kong
A team at The Chinese University of Hong Kong has created a new AI-based blood pressure management system called Dr PAI. It uses technology from DeepSeek to communicate with patients in a way similar to a real doctor. Dr PAI combines wearable devices and a large language model to monitor blood pressure and heart rate around the clock. It collects various health data and provides readings, health assessments, and lifestyle advice. Professor Zhang Yuanting, who leads the research team, stated that Dr PAI analyzes ongoing communication and monitoring data to offer reliable treatment recommendations. Currently, a beta version of the system is undergoing clinical trials, with plans for a launch by the end of the year. This system aims to address the need for affordable blood pressure management, especially for those in rural or low-income areas. Hypertension is a major health risk, leading to cardiovascular diseases and strokes. Professor Yuanting highlighted that Dr PAI operates on low-computation devices, making it accessible without expensive equipment, promoting health equality. DeepSeek's language models are increasingly used in healthcare across China. Notable healthcare providers like ClouDr and South China Hospital have begun using DeepSeek AI. The trend shows a growing integration of AI in medical systems to improve healthcare delivery.
