A Cedars-Sinai study compared AI treatment recommendations to those of physicians in a virtual urgent care setting. The study, using data from 2024, found AI performed better in initial recommendations for common complaints than physicians. However, physicians excelled at obtaining patient history and adapting recommendations. The study involved 461 virtual visits using an AI system developed by K Health, part of Cedars-Sinai Connect, launched in 2023. The AI gathered patient information, suggested diagnoses, and provided treatment recommendations. Physicians could view, but were not required to use, these suggestions. Researchers concluded AI has the potential to enhance clinical decisions for acute conditions when used effectively. The AI model showed particular success in identifying potential antibiotic-resistant infections. The study was conducted in collaboration with K Health and Tel Aviv University.
