AI mimics cognition but lacks creativity and ethics
Mysuru: During a recent national conference on artificial intelligence, Joseph Varghese emphasized the limits of AI. He mentioned that while AI can mimic some cognitive functions, it does not possess creativity, emotions, or ethical reasoning. Varghese, who leads the mathematics department at Kuriakose Elias College in Kerala, spoke at the event organized by Christ College. He pointed out that AI advancements rely on years of human work and innovation. He also discussed the positive impacts of AI, such as improvements in efficiency and decision-making. Rev Fr Dr Augustine, who leads the St Thomas Education Society, highlighted the extensive effects of digital technology and AI on society. He noted that AI is changing industries, education, and everyday experiences. The conference included a panel discussion with experts from various fields. Participants included Dr KS Sadananda from the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Disease, Chennabasavanna SL from the Karnataka Police Academy, and Dr Bindhu Latha S from a government college. Together, they shared valuable insights on AI's role and potential.
