AIADMK's no-confidence motion against Tamil Nadu speaker defeated
The AIADMK's attempt to remove Tamil Nadu assembly speaker M Appavu through a no-confidence motion failed on Monday. The ruling DMK and its allies, including the Congress, voted against the motion, with 154 MLAs opposing it in a voice vote. The AIADMK had 63 MLAs in support. The AIADMK accused the speaker of being biased and acting like a member of the DMK. Chief Minister M K Stalin dismissed the motion, stating that it was laughable. Some expelled AIADMK leaders also backed the call for his removal. Edappadi Palaniswami, leader of the AIADMK, criticized the speaker for limiting opposition speeches and questioned his impartiality. Stalin defended the speaker, claiming he had been generous in allowing opposition members to speak. He suggested that the resolution was more about distracting from issues within the AIADMK than any real concerns about the government. After the discussion, deputy speaker K Pitchandi conducted a voice vote, confirming the resolution was defeated. Appavu expressed his satisfaction, stating he had always acted fairly in his role.
