Aiken High School has appointed Steve Hibbitts as its new head football coach. The Aiken County Board of Education approved his hiring on Tuesday. Hibbitts previously coached at Lakeside (Evans) for 11 seasons, achieving a 10-2 record last year. Hibbitts is the sixth head coach for Aiken High since 2016. The team struggled last season, finishing with a 1-9 record. Hibbitts replaces interim coach Heath Corley, who stepped in after Dwayne Garrick resigned. Hibbitts has a history of playoff success, leading Lakeside to six consecutive playoff appearances from 2016 to 2022. He also coached at Westside (Augusta) and served as a defensive coordinator at North Augusta.
