Air India flight diverted from Delhi to Chennai temporarily

An Air India flight from New Delhi to Bengaluru was diverted to Chennai on Monday. The airline stated that the diversion was due to "operational reasons on the runway." Flight AI2415 took off from Delhi at 9:55 am and was meant to arrive in Bengaluru at 12:50 pm. After landing in Chennai, the plane was refueled and left for Bengaluru at 1:38 pm. Air India confirmed the flight returned to its original route shortly after the issue was resolved. However, a source from Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport said there was no restriction that would have caused the diversion. They explained that every Monday, there is a notice prohibiting landings and takeoffs from the south runway for an hour due to maintenance. The source noted that while flights can use the northern runway, pilots need specific certification for that runway. They said this practice is routine and has been followed for years. The source added that there were no aircraft stopped from landing, but advised checking with the airline for any specific issues faced.
