AirBorneo plans regional expansion with new jet aircraft

thestar.com.my

The Sarawak government plans to lease new jet aircraft for AirBorneo, aiming to expand its services beyond Malaysia. Six international destinations have been identified, including South Korea and Japan. AirBorneo, previously MASWings, will operate under its old name until necessary approvals are secured. AirBorneo is expected to be fully operational by early 2026 after acquiring MASWings. The airline will replace its older ATR fleet with newer ATR 72-600 aircraft. Over 300 MASWings staff will be absorbed into AirBorneo as part of the transition. Miri Airport is set for an expansion to accommodate AirBorneo's operations, increasing passenger capacity from two million to four million annually. The upgrade will include new facilities and is expected to begin construction in early 2026.
