Airbus advocates for European tech autonomy and funding
Airbus and over 90 European companies have urged the European Commission to establish a sovereign infrastructure fund. This fund aims to increase public investment and enhance Europe's technological independence amid concerns over reliance on non-European technologies. In a letter to EU leaders, the companies highlighted Europe's lag in the digital sector compared to the U.S. and China. They emphasized the need for a "Buy European" policy to support local suppliers and reduce dependencies that pose security risks. The letter also calls for significant public funding for tech projects, particularly in areas like quantum computing and chips. This push comes as the EU seeks to strengthen its tech sector and respond to U.S. protectionist measures.
