Airport fee hikes may raise transport inflation, BSP warns
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) warned that upcoming fee increases at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) could raise air travel costs, contributing to transport inflation. However, the overall inflation outlook remains stable. Starting September 2025, terminal fees for domestic travelers will rise from P200 to P500, and international fees will increase from P550 to P950. The BSP noted that while these changes may affect airfares, their impact on overall inflation will be minimal. The BSP is more concerned about potential increases in global oil prices, which could pose a greater risk to inflation. Current forecasts suggest inflation will stay within the target range of 2 to 4 percent for 2025.
