AI's impact on India's jobs is expected to be limited
Artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to have a limited impact on organized-sector jobs in India, according to S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and IT. He stated that the risk of job loss from AI is lower in India compared to Western countries. This is mainly because India does not have as many white-collar jobs that could be affected. Krishnan highlighted that AI can actually improve productivity in sectors like manufacturing and agriculture. This improvement will come from better use of technology, such as sensors and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, especially with the rollout of 5G and 6G networks. Additionally, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and MeitY are working together on developing an indigenous mobile chip. This chip is important for India’s vision of self-reliance in technology. Krishnan emphasized that a locally developed mobile operating system will depend on this new chip, which is being supported under ongoing government initiatives.
